The next General Membership Meeting this Wednesday, March 20, 2024 will be on a different virtual platform. There are many similarities to our previous platform Zoom, and some differences. For more information on the platform click the following link Motion Meetings.
Why change now? Because there will be new committees and Conference delegates elected at the next meeting, there is a possibility of votes. The National office has deemed that Zoom is not a secure platform to handle these votes. There was a Nation-wide memo sent out from the CUPE National President Mark Hancock. Read the memo here.
What are the differences? Members will receive an email with the meeting link, this link is unique to you. The link cannot be shared, it may be forwarded to another email address if needed (as an example, your Unity Health email to your personal if you have not updated with us) but it will only allow access for one person. We will be accompanied by a member of the Motion Meetings team for our next meeting to guide us along.
The folks at Motion Meetings have worked with various other Unions and CUPE locals and are open to any new features or ideas, please reach out to our Support email if you have any problems.
International Women’s Day is celebrated globally on March 8 as a focal point in the women’s rights movement. IWD gives focus to issues such as gender equality, reproductive rights, violence and abuse against women.
Gloria Steinem, world-renowned feminist, journalist and activist reportedly once explained “The story of women’s struggle for equality belongs to no single feminist, nor to any one organization, but to the collective efforts of all who care about human rights.
The day also marks a call to action for accelerating women’s equality
As we celebrate International Women’s day, let us:
celebrate women’s achievements
educate and awareness raise about women’s equality
call for positive change advancing women
lobby for accelerated gender parity
fundraise for women-focused charities
To each and every member of our local and on behalf of the Executive Board of CUPE 5441, Equality Coordinator, trustees and stewards:
Your Equality Coordinator,
Cheryl Belgrave
