Agenda includes:

  • Updates on Local issues & Approval of Local Budget
  • Motion to receive the Transfer of Jurisdiction of the Spiritual Care Practitioners (Chaplains) as a Sub-Unit of CUPE Local 5441. Motion attached.
  • Nominations for the positions of Stewards and Bargaining Committees

In order to be nominated you either need to be at the meeting to accept your nomination, or you need to submit your nomination to someone who will be present at the meeting on your behalf. The nomination should be presented in the following format:

I, (Name of person making the nomination), nominate (Name of Candidate) for the position (Title of the Position, Site and Full-time, Part-time or Casual Status) of Local 5441.

Both the nominator and the Candidate must sign and date the document.

You may also submit your nomination in the above format to the Recording-Secretary, Elkin Greig (recordingsecretary@cupe5441.ca), no later than Wednesday, February 26th.

Candidates may be elected for both positions.

If more than one candidate is nominated for a position, elections will take place on Wednesday, March 11th.  Voting details to follow.

Bargaining Committees:

Service: 3 members-at-large from each Site.

As per the Structure Document, the President, the Executive Chief Steward, the four Site Vice-President’s and three members-at-large from each site will form the bargaining committee. Should the 3 member-at-large candidates with the most votes at a specific site not include either a Full-time or Part-time member, the top two votes shall be declared elected, and the third seat shall be determined by either the Full-time or Part-time member receiving the most votes.

Clerical: 2 members-at-large from each Site.

Please identify if the candidate is FT or PT.

As per the Structure Document, the President, the Executive Chief Steward, three Site Vice-President’s (one from each site), and 2 members-at-large, one Full-time one Part-time from each site, will form the bargaining committee.

Transfer of Jurisdiction Agreement between Local 5441 Unity Health Toronto & Spiritual Care Practitioners, Unity Health Toronto:

BE IT RESOLVED that upon approval from CUPE National Office, Local 5441 Unity Health Toronto agrees to receive the transfer of jurisdiction of the Spiritual Care Practitioners of Unity Health Toronto according to the terms and conditions outlined herein:

a) That upon approval from the Secretary-Treasurer of CUPE National, the new Local Union number would be CUPE Local 5441.02 (or as assigned by CUPE National).
b) That in order for the members of the Spiritual Care Practitioners to have representation on the Local 5441 Executive, in accordance with the Local 5441 Interim Structure Document, a Unit Vice-President of the Spiritual Care Practitioners will be elected as soon as possible upon approval of the transfer of jurisdiction.
c) That once approval has been received from the CUPE National Secretary-Treasurer for the transfer of jurisdiction, Union dues will begin to be deducted at the CUPE Local 5441 rate of 1.7% of regular wages and be remitted to CUPE Local 5441.
d) That the existing rules and practices shall continue for each of the Locals/Unit until a By-Law Committee (as constituted by Local 5441’s Interim Structure Document) has drafted by-laws which are approved by the general membership of the new Local 5441 in accordance with the National Constitution. Such by-laws shall be completed no later than the May 2020 membership meeting.

Motion to Formally Transfer Jurisdiction to CUPE Local 5441

Transfer of Jurisdiction Agreement between Spiritual Care Practitioners & Local 5441 Unity Health Toronto:

BE IT RESOLVED that the Spiritual Care Practitioners of Unity Health Toronto, agree to transfer jurisdiction to Local 5441 Unity Health Toronto according to the terms and conditions outlined herein:

CORONAVIRUS (2019-nCoV) (Wuhan coronavirus)

The Wuhan coronavirus is a new virus that has been widely reported in the media lately. Originating in Wuhan, China, the coronavirus “2019-nCoV” is an illness in the same family as SARS (severe acute respiratory syndrome).

Workers in the sectors of health care and transportation are at a greater risk of exposure to the virus. Employers in these sectors should already have effective plans in place for regular day-to-day interactions as well as protocols to follow for pandemic events.

CUPE National’s Health and Safety Branch has developed an information fact sheet that includes measures of control to prevent exposure to the coronavirus in the workplace.

CUPE 5441 Update

It has already been a busy start to the new year for our Local. Here is the latest update as of January 10, 2020.

Service Composite Collective Agreement was ratified on January 8th. C&W Services at Providence

The C&W Unit voted to join CUPE Local 5441, and CUPE Local 5441 voted to receive the C&W Unit within our Local Union Structure. We are awaiting formal approval from CUPE National Office.
